Bridging Eastern and Western sounds in a contemporary blend, The TENG Ensemble revisits music of the past and reimagines them in the present. The musicians were born and raised in Singapore, and hence find their identities in a medley of borrowed cultures, a heterogeneous heritage and an indefinite understanding of being Asian. Their works draw inspiration from many sources but are all at once current, innovative and urban, bringing music lovers on a refreshing and colourful adventure.
The ensemble has performed in cities such as Melbourne, Shanghai, Seoul, Manila, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Penang, where they presented Singaporean music to an international audience and received unanimous acclaim. Their two full-length albums were both awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars by The Straits Times and their second album 'Stories from an Island City' ranked #1 on Hong Kong’s iTunes World Music chart. They have played at venues and events such as the Esplanade Concert Hall, Esplanade Recital Studio, Singapore Day in Melbourne, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Fringe Club, ASEAN Tourism Forum, George Town Festival, TEDxPetaling Street, President's Star Charity, Mediacorp’s Star Awards, Shanghai World Expo, Youth Olympic Games, Singapore Night Festival and Singapore Heritage Festival. Their online music videos are much talked about and have been widely viewed and shared by people from Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, Thailand, China, and Australia, amongst others.
